Pokemon Nuzlocke – The Final Battle

I was able to get my team leveled up to fight the elite four.  I thought I could use Victory Road for leveling but I was mistaken. I had a Tentacruel with TOXIC I was going to use but he got killed by a self destruct Geodude in Victory Road.

So I take a more safe route to leveling.   I used my VS SEEKER and fought the bikers west of the 4th gym leader Erica.   After many hours I got my team leveled up.

My team going into it:

Level 65 Slowbro

Level 55 Slowbro

Level 55 Pigeot

Level 55 Venusaur

Level 55 Ninetales

Level 55 Venomoth

I was ready for the Final Battle!

I fought past Lorelei’s team with ease using my SLOWBRO and plenty of potions.      My Ninetales stepped in to wipe out the Jynx!

Bruno I thought would be easy.  Unfortunately his Hitmonchan KO’d my Pigeot.  I had Pigeot use fly which did huge damage but then his Hitmonchan used Counter and wiped out Pigeot.    That was my error I should have kept using Slowbro with Psychic.

I was able to take out the Ghost Trainer with ease using my psychic types.

Fighting Lance was a BATTLE.  His Gyrados was tough.  I had no electric moves so I had to use my Slowbro and potions.     One of my SLOWBRO has Ice beam so I could use that on his Dragonairs but they were tricky as they had Thunder Wave and Outrage.      His Dragonite was the real beast as his Outrage did huge damage to my team.  I was able to grind past him with my Slowbro and potions.

I went onto fight Gary my rival.   His Gyrados was tough again.   The tricky one was going up against his Exeggutor, since it is grass psychic.   My Pigeot had died.   I thought I could beat it with Slowbro but his Exeggutor had Giga Drain!   I used Ninetales and Fire Blasted over and over.  that got it.    The rest of his team was easy after that.

And just like that I was the league champion.  only lost my Pigeot in the battles.

I want to pay tribute to all of the various casualties I lost along the way.

METAPOD

Mankey

Sandslash

PIDGEOT

Doduo

The challenge was fun but it was stressful!  you REALLY feel the pain when one of your pokemon faints or gets hit by a critical hit.

Nuzlocke Challenge part 5: The story continues

I moved to Cinnabar island.  The team navigated the pokemon mansion slowly but surely.  If I weren’t doing the Nuzlocke I would have grabbed some cool pokemon there like a Muk or a DITTO.  But I didn’t!

Using my SLOWBRO and PIGEOT I was able to navigate my way through.  I also was able to easily handle Blaine with my SlowBRO.

I am hoping to level up my Armees and use it for TOXIC.

I went to Veridian City to face down the final gym Leader Giovanni.  The gym had strong trainers for sure and Giovanni was strong.   I was worried he had FISSURE like he did in the original games but in this generation they gave him Earthquake instead.   My SlowBRO was able to handle him.

I won.      I was nervous but I was able to beat my rival again using SLOWBRO and the rest of my team.

I went to Victory Road.

I wanted to train my ARMESS but I faced a GEODUDE.   The wild GEODUDE used SELF DESTRUCT! and killed my Tentacruel.  rest in peace.

Now I am training a second SLOWPOKE and VENONAT to round out my team.

then I’ll be ready to fight the elite four.

Nuzlocke Challenge Part 3: The Phoenix Rises from the Ashes

My Nuzlocke continues in Pokemon LeafGreen.  In my last post (The Darkest Hour) my team was decimated by Koga (poison master) and only Sprout (Venusaur) survived.

After some luck and grinding my team is back and ready for action.  In order to rebuild I ventured down to the Pokemon Mansion in Cinnabar Island and I got lucky to encounter a Vulpix! YES!

And then on a whim when I was in Celadon City I decided to surf in that water by that dude’s house (where you get softboiled).  I encountered a slowpoke which I caught. It was only level 16 though (and my Venusaur was level 45).

Over the past few weeks I have been doing a lot of grinding to level up a Pigeotto, vulpix, and slowpoke.

After much patience and determination I got my team back on good footing.

So today I went through the Silph Co, defeated my rival, defeated Giovanni, and took care of Sabrina!  My Slowbro did most of the heavy lifting. He is a beast because he has high health, high defense, and he is psychic water type.

My renewed team:

Level 47 Slowslow (SlowBro)

Level 45 Poops (Pigeot)

Level 39 Flame (Ninetales)

Level 49 Sprout ( Venusaur)

Level 13 Armees (Tentacool)   (was going to use that before I got slowpoke)

Level 36 Jet (Pigeot)

my next move is to venture to Cinnabar island and continue my journey!

Nuzlocke Challenge Part 2, The Darkest Hour

I was continuing on in my pokemon journey.    I got a Magikarp which I evolved into Gyrados only for purposes of using it for Surf.  I feel Gyrados is too overpowered.

My combination of Pidgeot and Venusaur allowed me to handle Team Rocket with ease and I could use my Pidgeot to handle the 4th gym leader Erica.     I got the Silph Scope and the Poke Flute.  I woke up Snorlax and killed it with my Machop, using Low Kick.

I made my way down the bikers lane to reach Fuschia City.  I went through the safari zone to go ahead and get Surf as well as getting Strength from the Warden with no teeth.

But,  I was just too eager.

I thought I was prepared for My battle with the 5th Gym Leader Koga.

My team going into the battle:

Level 40 Venusaur,  Level 45 Pidgeot, Level 28 Machoke, Level 27 Dugtrio, Level 24 Duduo, and level 20 Gyrados

My plan was to wipe out his team using my Pidgeot.

Koga has a Koffing, Muk, Koffing, and Weezing.  All poison types.   I underestimated the strength of his level 39 Muk.       His MUK had Toxic, Sludge, Acid Armor, and Minimize.

By the time the battle with Koga was done the only pokemon I had left over was my Venusaur !!!!

He wiped out my team using his Muk.    I thought I was done for and his Muk would kill my Venusaur as well but late in the battle I think he ran out of PP on his Sludge attack because he kept on trying to use Acid Armor, Toxic, and Minimize.  Luckily my Venusaur was not affected by Toxic.   So I just barely managed to make it through that battle.

Now I am going to need to grind to get my NEW team up to the proper levels.

My current new team:

Level 40 Venusaur, Level 23 Pigeotto, Level 14 Geodude, Level 15 Gastly, Level 13 bell sprout, and level 5 magikarp.

I shall not give up and my Nuzlocke Challenge shall continue!

Best Podcasts of 2019 (Must Listen)

Hello all fans,

The best podcast I have discovered without a doubt is the I HAD AN IDEA Podcast.  It is these two guys discussing funny business ideas.  It is super clever and really inspiring.

you can find the podcast on Audioboom as well as apple music and spotify.    They cover cool topics like “What if there was a support line for your pizza?” or “Should old people make money when they are in a Senior Home?”

It is a real gem and I feel this podcast is really on the rise!

Also, I do recommend This American Life and the James Altucher Podcast.

Pokemon Red Weak Team (Completed) (Chansey, Poliwrath, BeeDrill)

My challenge has been completed. On June 2nd I was able to defeat the Elite four and my rival (named Blue). It was my PIGEOT that dealt the final blow to his level 65 Venusaur.

My team before I made the attempt was:

LEVEL 62 GYRADOS

LEVEL 42 POLIWRATH

LEVEL 37 CHANSEY

LEVEL 51 PIDGEOT

LEVEL 37 OMANYTE

LEVEL 28 BEE DRILL

(I think it was a guy online or maybe on Quora who suggested this weak team).  Nobody on my team knew how to use: Earthquake, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Blizzard, or any Psychic moves.  Also no TRI ATTACK and NO  rock slide.   My team really did not have that much HITTING POWER.

My main pokemon were the GYRADOS and the PIDGEOT! They were able to deal damage.  Once I evolved my Poliwhirl into POLIWRATH then he became more useful as well.    BEE DRILL was kind of useless most of the game.  And Chansey really is not that great.

I used GYRADOS to beat most of the Elite Four.  it knew Hyper Beam which I upped to 7 PP.     Lorelei has a tricky team if you don’t have  a good electric pokemon, she was a tough first hurdle.   Fighting Bruno was pretty easy, just need water moves and flying moves.

Agatha was tough because her team used lots of CONFUSING moves so that was annoying.  LUCKILY, in this game only NORMAL type moves don’t hit ghosts, so I could still use fighting type moves and flying type moves and bug moves to hit them.  So I actually did use BEE DRILL and Chansey and Pidgeot to beat her team.

LANCE was super easy, I used my Poliwrath on his dragons and they would not attack they only wanted to use AGILITY.   And then his D R A G O N I T E was easy to kill I could use Poliwrath and BEE DRILL.  (THE AI in Gen 1 is pretty stupid in general).

and my rival was not that difficult.  I was able to one shot his ALAKAZAM by having my Gryados use BITE. so that was great.

HONESTLY, the first one, Lorelei, was the toughest because they had good stats and I did not have any super effective moves to hit with.

It was a grind for sure but I am glad I could complete the challenge (which I placed on myself).

I hope the good people of the world will continue to enjoy playing pokemon, especially Gen 1 and Gen 2 games (they are my favorites).

Pokemon Red Update (Weak Team) (Elite Four)

Saturday June 1st

I have made one attempt at the Elite four.  I was not able to get past Agatha.  My main pokemon were Gyrados and PIGEOT.   my team is too weak.

I have gone back and tried to level them more.  I will try again soon.

My victory is 100% based on Gyrados.   Luckily, it does know Hyper Beam.

Not having any electric moves definitely slows things down.  And I don’t have Ice or Psychic.  Moves like Ice Beam and Psybeam really crush many of the Elite four.

I am going to try again soon.

I am hoping that my Poliwrath will become more useful.    I only have so much patience to GRIND and raise the level of the weak pokemon.  Also, BEE DRILL is still pretty useless.

Pokemon Red Weak Team (7 badges update)

Hello all,

With my weak team I have made progress.  I just defeated Blaine on Cinnabar Island.  It was pretty easy since I have a Gyrados and a Poliwhirl (which I will eventually evolve into Poliwrath).

Right now my team is: Gyrados, PIGEOT, Poliwhirl, CHANSEY, BeeDrill, and Omanyte.    GYRADOS and PIGEOT are my strongest pokemon by far.   a big concern I have is that my team will not be strong enough to defeat the elite four. My best pokemon are water-flying and flying.  The GYRADOS it does know hyper beam.   But my other pokemon are very weak, like my BEE DRILL is basically useless.  And Chansey needs to get to a higher level, but I did teach Chansey TOXIC and SEISMIC TOSS which are pretty good combo.    But I am still worried that my team won’t be powerful enough to defeat the elite four.  I am using an EXP ALL to try and level up my team but it really takes forever and I have not spent too much time “grinding” but I might need to hear pretty soon.

With this run of the game I am not using any kind of Psychic type pokemon and I am avoiding having moves that are too good,  NO thunderbolt NO ice beam NO blizzard NO earthquake. Those moves are just too powerful.   And my team has a real serious lack in the department of ice moves and electric moves and fire moves.  So we shall how it plays out.

The game is WAY easier if you have a Zapdos or if you have a good Kadabra/Hypno.  or if you have a Blastoise that knows Surf/Ice beam.  Certain pokemon with certain moves make the game too easy.  Like you have Zapdos and it knows drill peck and thunderbolt, then the Zapdos can destroy a lot of pokemon that it goes up against.

Tennis Training and Talent

When teaching kids, you have to look for “talent”

But I think the MOST important element that can help a kid get some success with tennis at a young age is their competitiveness.    If there is a kid who is “competitive” in that they really want to win the matches, then they will be willing to fight and “grind” in order to win points and win games and ultimately win matches.  They will grunt and bend their knees and exert their force in order to try and win.

I have definitely seen kids who are in tournaments but they really don’t care at all.  Or they don’t try their best.  They could be rich kids or their parents want them to play.  But they really don’t care if they win the matches, they are not going to fight for it.  In theory, wealthy kids can eventually do well because they can get so many lessons that they learn how to hit hard and clean balls.   BUT, in the end, the advantage goes to the FIGHTER who is willing to battle and win the points.  You just have to look at someone like Nadal or somebody like DAVID FERRER and you can see.

That is just my 2 cents on the matter.

Look for kids who are very competitive because they will become really good tennis players with the right training and the right encouragement.

Pokemon Red Weak Team Challenge (UPDATE MARCH)

Hello All,

My Pokemon Red challenge continues.  I have faced some difficulty as the game progresses.  My team is: Gyrados, PIGEOT, Poliwhirl, Haunter, BEEDRILL, and CHANSEY.

My team is being carried by Gyrados and PIGEOT.  they are both near Level 40. My BEE DRILL is incredibly weak and Chansey is also pretty low level.  Both near level 20.    It will take forever to level them up but I can’t beat the game only using Gyrados and PIGEOT.

Keep in mind I can’t use really good moves like: Ice beam, Thunderbolt, Psychic, Earthquake, etc etc.    Especially Ice Beam and Thunderbolt.   You can beat this game quite easily if you have like a Zapdos with Thunderbolt and a Vaporeon or Lapras or Blastoise with Ice beam.                    At the moment my team lacks any kind of power in regards to electricity or fire or grass.           G Y R A DOS has water moves like surf and bubble beam and it has Bite and Dragon Rage.   Pigeot just has normal and flying moves. Anyway, my team is quite fragile right now If I lose the two main ones then I go down pretty fast.      with Chansey, Chansey is like a “tank” so I am going to let Chansey have TOXIC and REST and seismic toss.  I’m hoping that Chansey will help give me an edge.   And I think BEE DRILL will be kind of useless.       This team was just recommended to me by a guy online when I asked for a weak team to try to beat the game with.

I recently got the EXP ALL.  That was difficult as I needed to get some more pokemon, needed 50 to get the item.  It will still take forever to level up at this speed.

So right now, I have the badge from Koga.  Need 3 more badges.   But I worry that my team will definitely be TOO WEAK by the time I get to the Elite Four.

But you know, I guess I must try!

The original recommendation was to have a Persian.  But there is no MEOWTH in Pokemon Red so I decided to go with Haunter which would help me to capture pokemon.

But of course, if people online think Haunter is too powerful I can always get a weaker pokemon.
