Pokemon Challenge Update (RED BLUE) (NOV 26)

Hello All,

For my pokemon red challenge, I made it through the dark cave, I got a Mr Mime and taught it flash.  I need to get rid of Mr Mime as he is too powerful, psychic type.

GYRADOS is quite powerful and right now I am moving through using GYRADOS and my Pidgeotto.

I have put my WARTORTLE into the PC and won’t use it anymore.

I need to get my POLI WHIRL.

Also, Beedrill is pretty weak and useless.

One plan is to get the EXP ALL at some point to help level up my team.

but I am thinking I might be able to win the game just by getting my GYRADOS to a high enough level.   But I don’t have any pokemon who can use fire moves or electric moves so i might do something about that.

Also, I got Fly and can use that now.

Pokemon Challenge Red and BLUE (NOV 24th, update)

G Y R A D O S has been acquired.  The Magikarp has evolved.

I will get rid of the Wartortle as soon as I get the 3rd badge.

I was thinking about using a MR MIME.

But I have decided that any kind of Psychic pokemon is too powerful so I will not use him.    No ABRA, KADABRA, ALAKAZAM.   no MR MIME.  no JYNX.   No Psychic types.  they are too strong.

I AM FINDING I HAVE TO HEAL A LOT because my pokemon just are not very strong.

Also, it is interesting how the game has that level 29 DuG TRIO in it, almost as if they put it there for you to catch and defeat LT SURGE WITH.

My team needs to be GYRADOS PIGEOT CHAN SEY,  BEE DRILL, Poliwhirl/ Poliwrath, and one more pokemon that is not too strong, it just can’t be a psychic user.

Pokemon Challenge update (RED AND BLUE)

The Pokemon challenge is continuing on.

My Magikarp is still a Magikarp, but only 5 levels away from becoming Gyrados.

Soon I need to get rid of my Wartortle and begin the challenge in Ernest.

I have not defeated LT Surge yet.   But I do have BEDROLL and Pidgeotto and I have the Magikarp.

I JUST acquired CHANSEY!!!   I used the Chansey glitch in order to get a level 7 Chansey.  My game plan is to teach Chansey TOXIC deep in the game and I might also teach Chansey Seismic Toss.

I know for sure I need to use chansey   GYRADOS   PIDGEOT   Poliwrath and BEE DRILL.  the Sixth pokemon is up in the air, but it can’t be too powerful.  I’m leaning towards using a HAUNTER maybe.  but I am open to suggestions!!!

The main caveat is that none of my pokemon can know THUNDERBOLT or EARTHQUAKE or ICE BEAM as those moves are too strong.

Pokemon Challenge (Red and Blue)(Biscuit)

For my Pokemon Red I am challenging myself once again!   I find the game to be too easy for a player who knows the game.  If you have a Blastoise/Charizard and you get a Pidgeot, you play the game …. you eventually get a Snorlax and then you probably get a Zapdos or maybe an Articuno.  You can even use the Master ball to get one of those birds.  If you have a leveled up Charizard and a Snorlax and a Zapdos then it is pretty easy to dominate the game.   If you have a pokemon that can use Earthquake or a pokemon that can use Ice Beam or a pokemon that can use Thunderbolt that also helps to make the game quite easy (Especially with Ice beam and Thunderbolt).

I did a previous run where I did not want to use my starter or any legendaries.  Usually if I could use Blastoise and Zapdos then the game was easy.   So in my previous run (   https://djrobobiscuit.com/tag/clefable/ )    I ran through the game using Clefable and Vaporeon and Kadabra.  But that team was too powerful, Clefable had Thunderbolt and Tri Attack,  Vaporeon had Ice beam and surf,  Kadabra had psychic attacks.    My team was still too powerful,  their stats were not amazing but their moves were too strong.

So now I am going to use an even weaker team and i’m going to use generally weaker moves.   My team is going to be:   Gyrados, Chansey, Pidgeot, Beedrill, Poliwhirl/Poliwrath,  and one other pokemon (I’m not 100% sure but I might use Haunter).     A person online recommended I try to use this team.     Beedrill is super weak in my opinion.     And Chansey has pretty weak stats for attacking but I think I am going to teach Chansey TOXIC.      And I will also not use ICE BEAM or THUNDERBOLT or EARTHQUAKE.

So we shall see if this team makes it harder to get through the game and beat the Elite four.   I think if Twitch can win then it is possible to succeed in many ways, they did obviously have Zapdos but they also had that Venomoth (The dragon slayer).

Beat Pokemon Red No Starter No Legendary

I was able to beat the game.  I beat the game in 23 hours and 14 minutes.

I was inspired by Twitch plays pokemon.  I wanted to see if I could beat Pokemon Red Blue without using a Starter pokemon or a legendary.  Normally when i play I want to use Blastoise or Charizard and then also use Snorlax as well as Zapdos.  Once you get Zapdos the game becomes very easy because you can use Fly and Drill Peck as well as Thunderbolt and that beats SO many pokemon because Zapdos has good stats as well.

So I wanted to see if I could make it through the game without using “good pokemon” I wanted to use pokemon that were “just okay”

When I made it to the Elite Four I wanted to see if I could beat them without using any items to see how my team compared.  I lost to my rival who I named “Gary” I was able to get to his GYRADOS.  (I also like to use Gyrados because it is OP, but my team did not have Gyrados).  I was able to make it to the rival but not beat him on my try and I did not use any items.  My main pokemon was a CLEFABLE, a KADABRA, a VAPOREON, and a Pidgeot.  I also had a low level Nidoking and a low level Omanyte (in tribute to Lord Helix) from Twitch.    Before I went back to try again I wanted to get TM 15 Hyper Beam for Kadabra but I did not have enough money and/or coins in order to get it.

I was basically ready to try again, this time I would use healing items.

On my second time through, I was able to beat the Champion!

My team to win the game was:

Clefable level 68   -Tri Attack, BubbleBeam, Thunderbolt, Metronome

Vaporeon level 48 – Ice Beam and Surf

Kadabra level 56 – Psybeam and Psychic and Recover

Pigeot level 45 – Fly, wing attack, quick attack

Nidoking level 31 – Strength, Thrash

Omanyte level 32  – Water Gun

The AI of the game is not that smart, it doesn’t really take advantage of chances to kill you, which I guess is why TWITCH could win with the Venomoth against Dragonite.  Having my Clefable know TRI ATTACK and Bubblebeam was very important.  Also, Vaporeon with Surf and Ice Beam was important.  And Kadabra is strong.

You can definitely beat the game without using a Starter and you don’t need any Legendaries to win.  You just need some “medium” tier pokemon and good use of the TMS.

(I will admit that Kadabra is a pretty strong pokemon, the game would be tougher if I could not use Kadabra … )

Thank you to all my fans and supporters!

An Opinion on Pokemon Red and Blue (Gen 1)

The game is a good game because there is some difficulty and you need to keep on leveling up your pokemon.

However, the game can become too easy if you use overpowered Pokemon.   For example: Charizard and Blastoise are strong, being able to use Flamethrower or teaching Blastoise Ice Beam and Surf make the game relatively easy.

Also, catching Snorlax and then using him makes the game easy as well because Snorlax has great HP stats and attack power.

Also, catching Zapdos at the Power Plant then makes the game very easy as you can teach Zapdos ThunderBolt and Fly, which makes it Overpowered.

Also, if you decide to get a Gyrados early on then the game becomes easy due to Gyrados having such a high attack stat.

The game truly has a challenge to it when you choose to use Pokemon that are less strong, pokemon who are not really “game winners” like a Blastoise-Zapdos combination.
