Day 1193

It was another nice day in the life of Melvin. He woke up and had a delicious cup of coffee.  He checked the forecast and it showed it was partly cloudy with a 40% chance of rain.

“I really hope it does not rain today.” Said Melvin.  He was not a fan of the rain.

He drove to the office.  Traffic was light and there were no jams.

He made it to the office safely.  “Good morning Melvin.” Said the receptionist.

“Good morning Gladdis.” Said Melvin.

Melvin sat down at his computer.  He opened an email from the CEO. It read:

Great news everyone!  The company stock has gone up!  As part of our efforts with profit sharing expect to receive an additional $200 to your next paycheck.  Keep up the good work!

Sincerely,

Bob Wentworth

“Wow, this is great!” Exclaimed Melvin.  Just like three weeks ago (he thought).

Melvin continued working for a while.  He walked over to the water cooler.

“Hey, how is it going guys?”

“Oh hey Melvin. We were just talking about the game last night!”

“Oh ya!  Who you guys pulling for these days?”

“We all pull for the Jets!”

“Yeah and they won last night!”

“It was great!  It was looking like they were going to lose and they threw a touchdown pass right near the end and it clinched the game.”

“It was huge!”

“Yeah man.  Back-to-back games now.  Same thing happened last week!  Not exactly the same but they did score that touchdown right at the end.”

“That was great too!”

“So what else is going on with you guys?”

“Probably gonna check out The Squad tonight.”

“Oh yeah, I heard they have a new episode.”

“Yeah I hope they can defeat Brainmaster.  He is tough!”

“Yeah it could be one of their toughest battles yet!”

Melvin got back to work.  They had free brownies in the break room!   They had nuts and no nuts.  Melvin liked brownies so he was a happy camper.

He got through work and headed home.

But his car got a flat tire and he had to pull over.  “Oh crap!” said Melvin.  He went on his Guyco insurance App.  He put in a request for roadside maintenance.    Expected time until arrival was “2 minutes.”   Only two minutes? (Thought Melvin.)

Pokemon Red Weak Team (Completed) (Chansey, Poliwrath, BeeDrill)

My challenge has been completed. On June 2nd I was able to defeat the Elite four and my rival (named Blue). It was my PIGEOT that dealt the final blow to his level 65 Venusaur.

My team before I made the attempt was:

LEVEL 62 GYRADOS

LEVEL 42 POLIWRATH

LEVEL 37 CHANSEY

LEVEL 51 PIDGEOT

LEVEL 37 OMANYTE

LEVEL 28 BEE DRILL

(I think it was a guy online or maybe on Quora who suggested this weak team).  Nobody on my team knew how to use: Earthquake, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Blizzard, or any Psychic moves.  Also no TRI ATTACK and NO  rock slide.   My team really did not have that much HITTING POWER.

My main pokemon were the GYRADOS and the PIDGEOT! They were able to deal damage.  Once I evolved my Poliwhirl into POLIWRATH then he became more useful as well.    BEE DRILL was kind of useless most of the game.  And Chansey really is not that great.

I used GYRADOS to beat most of the Elite Four.  it knew Hyper Beam which I upped to 7 PP.     Lorelei has a tricky team if you don’t have  a good electric pokemon, she was a tough first hurdle.   Fighting Bruno was pretty easy, just need water moves and flying moves.

Agatha was tough because her team used lots of CONFUSING moves so that was annoying.  LUCKILY, in this game only NORMAL type moves don’t hit ghosts, so I could still use fighting type moves and flying type moves and bug moves to hit them.  So I actually did use BEE DRILL and Chansey and Pidgeot to beat her team.

LANCE was super easy, I used my Poliwrath on his dragons and they would not attack they only wanted to use AGILITY.   And then his D R A G O N I T E was easy to kill I could use Poliwrath and BEE DRILL.  (THE AI in Gen 1 is pretty stupid in general).

and my rival was not that difficult.  I was able to one shot his ALAKAZAM by having my Gryados use BITE. so that was great.

HONESTLY, the first one, Lorelei, was the toughest because they had good stats and I did not have any super effective moves to hit with.

It was a grind for sure but I am glad I could complete the challenge (which I placed on myself).

I hope the good people of the world will continue to enjoy playing pokemon, especially Gen 1 and Gen 2 games (they are my favorites).

Pokemon Red Update (Weak Team) (Elite Four)

Saturday June 1st

I have made one attempt at the Elite four.  I was not able to get past Agatha.  My main pokemon were Gyrados and PIGEOT.   my team is too weak.

I have gone back and tried to level them more.  I will try again soon.

My victory is 100% based on Gyrados.   Luckily, it does know Hyper Beam.

Not having any electric moves definitely slows things down.  And I don’t have Ice or Psychic.  Moves like Ice Beam and Psybeam really crush many of the Elite four.

I am going to try again soon.

I am hoping that my Poliwrath will become more useful.    I only have so much patience to GRIND and raise the level of the weak pokemon.  Also, BEE DRILL is still pretty useless.

Fathers and Sons

A tale by DJ ROBO BISCUIT

I did not know my father growing up, but I did know he was a bad man.  It was tough growing up without my dad around.  And my mom was loving but also full of peculiarities.   Somedays she loved me and somedays she seemed to despise me.  But I don’t blame her.   She is one of many moms put in that strange predicament.  She was a warrior.  But you could still see her trauma.

In 2018, there were 4 million births; there were 90,000 rapes; and 4,000 reported babies caused by rape.   Those numbers changed greatly.  Here in the year 2035 we have 5 million births, 100,000 rapes and 50,000 babies born from rape.  Ever since they banned the abortions, the numbers have been going up.

And that is me, a “rape baby.”  It happened one night, in a dark alley, my dad got her.  She has told me that she had wished could abort but it was illegal.  But she also told me she was glad she had me.  Sometimes it is confusing!  And she would always mention the “Good ol’ days” when women were allowed to abort.

Tuesday nights I have my RBA meetings.  Rape Baby Anonymous.  Many of the guys and girls there are my age.  We were part of the “first wave” of rape babies.  We sit around and stare at each other.  We talk about it.   What it is like to not know our fathers, but of course to know he was a rapist.  Many of our moms are in rough shape, they are tough but many of them still have some trauma from the rape.  None of us know our dads.

But one day I decided to do something about it.   It was time for a DNA test.  Believe it or not, the government has initiatives to help kids find their fathers.

The results came back, and guess what?  I have 2 brothers!   They live in different states but it’s amazing to know I am not an only child.  One of them lives in New York City and the other lives in Orlando.  I guess dad was able to move around huh?

And of course, the results showed me my dad: Anthony Pelbis.    It’s a weird last name, Pelbis.   And my dad is locked up, but not for rape.  Looks like he was locked up for Burglary.  I guess good ol’ dad was a career criminal.   He was in prison only one state away.  I asked Mom, but she didn’t want to see him.

I drove to the prison.  I wanted to meet my father.

I sit down in front of the glass and grab the phone.  He is not very tall but he is strong.  He has a big nose and he has a large scar across his cheek which is very distinctive.   I know he is not a good guy but I can’t help but notice I do look like him.

“Well, I heard you were my son?”

“Hello Anthony, that is right.”

“Yeah, you don’t have to call me Dad or anything.  Unless you want to of course.  What’s your name?”

“My name is Albert.”

“Albert huh?  That is a fine name.   You know, you do kind of look like me!”

“How much do you know Anthony?”

“Oh about what?”

“About me and about mom?  And about your family?”

“Well, I know have at least one son, yourself.  And I don’t really have much family except for my brother.”

“Well actually Anthony, there are more of me.”

Anthony’s eyes widened.

“Yeah Dad, you are actually a father of three.  I have 2 other brothers.”

“Woah. That is crazy!”

“I guess you were a busy man many years ago.”

“You know Albert we all make mistakes, and now I am locked up.”

“Can you tell me anything about Mom?  From when she was younger.”

” You know son, I really can’t say much.  Me and your mom were intimate only one time and it was not on her terms.”

Pokemon Red Weak Team (7 badges update)

Hello all,

With my weak team I have made progress.  I just defeated Blaine on Cinnabar Island.  It was pretty easy since I have a Gyrados and a Poliwhirl (which I will eventually evolve into Poliwrath).

Right now my team is: Gyrados, PIGEOT, Poliwhirl, CHANSEY, BeeDrill, and Omanyte.    GYRADOS and PIGEOT are my strongest pokemon by far.   a big concern I have is that my team will not be strong enough to defeat the elite four. My best pokemon are water-flying and flying.  The GYRADOS it does know hyper beam.   But my other pokemon are very weak, like my BEE DRILL is basically useless.  And Chansey needs to get to a higher level, but I did teach Chansey TOXIC and SEISMIC TOSS which are pretty good combo.    But I am still worried that my team won’t be powerful enough to defeat the elite four.  I am using an EXP ALL to try and level up my team but it really takes forever and I have not spent too much time “grinding” but I might need to hear pretty soon.

With this run of the game I am not using any kind of Psychic type pokemon and I am avoiding having moves that are too good,  NO thunderbolt NO ice beam NO blizzard NO earthquake. Those moves are just too powerful.   And my team has a real serious lack in the department of ice moves and electric moves and fire moves.  So we shall how it plays out.

The game is WAY easier if you have a Zapdos or if you have a good Kadabra/Hypno.  or if you have a Blastoise that knows Surf/Ice beam.  Certain pokemon with certain moves make the game too easy.  Like you have Zapdos and it knows drill peck and thunderbolt, then the Zapdos can destroy a lot of pokemon that it goes up against.

Tennis Training and Talent

When teaching kids, you have to look for “talent”

But I think the MOST important element that can help a kid get some success with tennis at a young age is their competitiveness.    If there is a kid who is “competitive” in that they really want to win the matches, then they will be willing to fight and “grind” in order to win points and win games and ultimately win matches.  They will grunt and bend their knees and exert their force in order to try and win.

I have definitely seen kids who are in tournaments but they really don’t care at all.  Or they don’t try their best.  They could be rich kids or their parents want them to play.  But they really don’t care if they win the matches, they are not going to fight for it.  In theory, wealthy kids can eventually do well because they can get so many lessons that they learn how to hit hard and clean balls.   BUT, in the end, the advantage goes to the FIGHTER who is willing to battle and win the points.  You just have to look at someone like Nadal or somebody like DAVID FERRER and you can see.

That is just my 2 cents on the matter.

Look for kids who are very competitive because they will become really good tennis players with the right training and the right encouragement.

Tennis Talent, training young talent

Some thoughts on tennis development.

I have spent a good amount of time watching women’s tennis and watching girls junior tennis.  There is a severe lack of net play.  There is definitely more in the pros and I am surprised that Taylor Townsend is not able to get to the net even more because she has great hands.

In the world of junior girls, they spend most of their time behind the baseline.  I think they don’t want to get brought forward and they don’t like the net.   A young athletic girl if you can train her to play the net then she can win many matches.  I think a lot of girls will not be ready for it.

It is true on both sides, boys and girls.  Most kids just try to hit hard and hit heavy topspin.  If you have a good junior they just need training in how to slice, how to approach and how to volley.   They will get passed and lobbed sometimes but I think the resulting effect will be a victory and the opponent will be so pissed and thrown off by the aggression.
