Geisha, Memoirs of A (Biscuit Post)

I read Memoirs of a Geisha.   What a read!

I have often been interested in underworld kind of stuff like drug dealing and prostitution.   I recently watched Breaking Bad as I had never seen it before so I got a sense of a drug dealing so I thought I should read a book about Prostitution.

Geisha actually are not prostitutes.  They are entertainers who sit with men and pour them sake and delight them with conversation and dance and song.  The geisha can have sex with them if they choose but usually they do not.

The world of the Geisha is a social world where you have to struggle for power.  The story reminded me of Robert Greene’s 48 Laws of Power in that there were certain rules the characters had to follow in order to succeed and “play the game” so to speak.

Also, in the world of the Geisha if you are a beautiful young lady then you can auction off your virginity for a large fee.   Quite an interesting phenomenon.

Memoirs of a Geisha is not a book for girls only.  It is an interesting tale about trying to survive in a strange world with its own rules.

The book is a bestseller for a reason.  Once you start reading it, it becomes a “page turner.”

2 thumbs up.

Biscuit approved.
